L.A. Catholic calls it quits ... for a couple of weeks

I will be visiting family in different parts of the country as well as in Mexico. Pray that we may have a safe and restful journey. Be assured that I will be praying many Rosaries for my beloved City of Our Lady of the Angels, for her shepherds and for all who live here.

If I have a chance and have access to a computer, I just might drop a post, so do check back. Hasta la vista.

Enjoy your vacation! (You won't have LA cats or LA wolves in sheep's clothing to watch out for, but judging by your next post, the foxes are pretty troublesome. Take care!)

When you get back from vacation, you'll have to do a feature story on something that happened to someone I know (John) at a parish in the SFV this past weekend.

I'll have him pass the account on to you firsthand, but in a nutshell:

Rev. Alexander Lewis, the associate at St. Finbar's in Burbank, was recently assigned as a spiritual director at the seminary in Camarillo. He still helps with the weekend schedule of Masses in Burbank.

John has often noticed certain liturgical irregularities when Fr. Lewis says Mass. Last Sunday, one thing in particular that he found troubling was the way Fr. Lewis did not use a paten during Mass, but was putting the host directly on the corporal... and the corporal is a permanent fixture on the altar, not something that gets removed and laundered after each Mass.

After Mass, John approached him outside and asked him a question (this is my paraphrase): "I don't know how I'm going to ask you this question without making you upset, but I want to know: could you use a paten when you're celebrating Mass?" Fr. Lewis apparently lost his temper at this point. He began to shout at John, in the presence of those standing outside after Mass. A crowd gathered as the priest went on a tirade about how he will NOT use a paten, that John needed psychotherapy, that he didn't want to see John step foot in the parish again. He topped it off by approaching John and grabbing his shoulder as if he were about to push him... at which point some seminarian who was nearby pulled the priest away from him before things got any uglier.

All of this after a homily about how we are all good seeds... and that some people just don't fall on good ground.

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the direction this new spiritual director is going...

Dear Qunitero,
I hope that you will be able to attend MANY holy and reverently offered Masses in lovely churches by holy priests and that you will be renewed in body, mind and spirit on this journey. Make it a pilgrimage as well!

Ave Maria!

Take good care, Quintero.

Also, try to stay away from the computer while you're on vacation. It's too addicting...
