Hilter loved dogs. Churchill loved dogs. Therefore a rapprochement between Hitler and Churchill was possible. Sorry don't think this will fly. :)
The MSNBC story you link reports that "Animal lovers throughout Italy are looking to Pope Benedict XVI for changes that will relieve the plight of the country's stray cats ..."
Is there anyway of hacking into the story and replacing the "t" in "cats" with the letters "rdinal", and "animal lovers throughout Italy" with "tinsel-towners"?
Maybe +RM under the altar was actually coughing up a fur ball?!

Quintero, it wasn't all that hilarious...the best I could come up with at this "ungodly" hour down under. But thanks anyway, and as a German cat-lover like PB16 would no doubt say, Feline Danke!
BTW I've never visited +RM's LA Cathedral but I presume it has plenty of pigeons. Let's hope PB16 will set his cat among them soon...
Mahony's cathedral is too sterile to support any life forms. There are not many pigeons there, although there are a few. There's quite a few yellow chevroned parakeets hanging around the county buildings across the street though.
Mahony, who owns two silver tabbies named Raphael and Gabriel, believes that cats are perfect pets for clergymen “because they are wonderful companions. There is almost a spirituality about them. Their presence is very soothing."
Interesting. Kind of like there's almost a spirituality at the Cathedral.

Now I love Cats, but I'll be happier if Benedict keeps his focus on human rights instead of animal rights.
In all seriosity, the avenue of communication between the two might be the experience of doubt. In the opening pages to his classic Introduction to Christianity, entitled "Belief in the World of Today", Ratzinger talks about the theologian trying to communicate with modern man being like a clown who ran out into the village to warn everyone that the town was on fire, and no one believed that it was really true.
What is needed, he concludes, is an avenue of communication, a shared experience. And what do the believer and the non-believer have in common? The experience of doubt. The believer has to face the possibility that what he believes is NOT true, and the unbeliever has to face the possibility that it IS true.
It's one of the most profound Ratzigner insights I've come across to date.
Anyway, to apply it to the current situation... guess who would be the non-believer?
Maybe the cats could go see the spiritual director of (former Dominican priest) Matthew Fox, who claimed at one time that his dog was his spiritual director. Not kidding here.
