The LA Religious Ed conference has always been a "Who's Who" among the heterodox. I notice 2006 features:

Fr. Donald Cozzens, who supports Call to Action and Voice of the Faithful.

Dr. Meagan McKenna, who ridicules the rosary and mocks the creed.

Sr. Mary Boys, Call to Action and women's ordination activist.

Fr. Peter Phan from the Catholic University of America's School of Religious Studies where he has used his post to complain that The Catechism of the Catholic Church is not only too "conservative," it is anti-Semitic because it declares the New Testament is a fulfillment of the Old.

Sr. Theresa Phan, a popular speaker on the Catholic social justice circuit and homosexual and lesbian ministry conferences.

Thomas Groome, an ex-priest from Boston College, a dissenter to Humanae Vitae, advocate of inclusive language and ordaining women.

I haven't the energy to go on. The faces don't change they just get older.

How was mass at my parish this weekend?

Ok, so I don't live in the Archdiocese of LA, but I do live in the Province, here in the Diocese of Monterey. I am torn between just staying home, or making the 2 hour plus trek up to St. Margaret Mary in Oakland for the 1230 PM Tridentine Mass, four and a half hours after I finish my all night shift. Mass at my parish is just plain getting to the point where there is no reverence whatsoever.

Take heart, though. Bishop Ryan is up for retirement. Let's pray that Pope Benedict does a good job of replacing him with a Catholic.

At my parish the choir sings Happy Birthday after mass. I guess the celebration of the Eucharist has become the celebration of one of the choir member's kids.

Sunday Mass in LA is becoming more of a challenge. The Gloria sung at mass left out any mention of Jesus Christ. I thought we where there exactly because of Him. I do not get it. What is disturbing is probably those who choose that lyrics did not even think twice, just guessing.

Mass at St. Peter Chanel in Hawaiian Gardens was great! There were hymns in Latin, not to mention the mass parts. And the homilies are always good.

Clara,

I believe that a priest from your parish (I'm bad with names) has helped out at my parish. Is he from Africa? If it's who I think it is, he is indeed very good.

This is the first time I've been to this site - but even with the few posts I have read I sense a huge dissatifaction with what is going on with the "masses" in the diocese and the complete lack of Catholicism in all the churches and our church "leaders" don't seem to be Catholic anymore at all.

My advice: Find a Traditional Latim Mass location immediately. I was going crazy with all of the madness - then I found a Latin Mass - and it is an amazing difference. I have my Church back - the beautiful, incredible, miraculous Latin Mass - thank God. For the sake of your children your souls - they are out there for you. No, they sometimes are not as convenient timewise, but it's so worth the sacrifice - and the world needs sacrifice, don't you think? God bless.

Some facts worth clarifying:

1. There no longer is a School of Religious Studies at Catholic University. There is a School of Theology and Religious Studies that has been reconstituted according to directives from the Congregation for Catholic Education and is under the leadership of a new dean, Monsignor Kevin W. Irwin, a priest of the Archdiocese of New York..

2. It is also worth noting that Father Peter Phan is no longer on the faculty of CUA and has joined the theology faculty of Georgetown University

3. At this time, all of the theology professors at CUA have received the mandatum.

Have a good day.

This is just not catholic. Find an SSPX chapel. St.Joseph, pray for us.
