New bishop for San Bernardino

The Diocese of San Bernardino website reports ...

The Episcopal Ordination of The Most Reverend Rutilio del Riego, Titular Bishop of Daimlaig, and third Auxiliary Bishop of San Bernardino, took place Tuesday, September 20, 2005, 3:00 p.m., at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 14085 Peyton Drive, Chino Hills.

The Most Reverend Gerald R. Barnes was the principal consecrator in the presence of His Eminence Roger Cardinal Mahony. Co-consecrators at the celebration were The Most Reverend Cipriano Calderón Polo, D.L.P., Emeritus Vice President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America and The Most Reverend Ricardo Ramirez, C.S.B., Bishop of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
THE PRESS-ENTERPRISE adds the following details ...

Tuesday's ceremony underscored the diocese's cultural diversity. It opened with an American Indian blessing as three men circled the altar, using eagle feathers to fan wisps of smoldering sage during a prayer.

Tongan, black and Mexican dancers joined other performers who surrounded the dais during an uplifting hymn. The congregation heard gospel readings and songs in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.

I sure the Blessed Father Serra is happy that we apparantly now approve of pagan worship - and at the altar of Christ, no less.

They're spitting in the holy Padre's face. It's as if he shouldn't have bothered. Also, how does anyone know if it the hymn was 'inspiring;' did everyone there speak Tongan, Mexican, Spanish, and Vietnamese?!

This is my old diocese although I am no longer a practicing Catholic. My poor family is still stuck with this crap. A few years ago the bishop began insisting on multi-lingual "liturgies" for big holidays and events so the former pastor decided that the entire Eucharistic prayer would be chanted in Latin.

In the Diocese of San Bernardino if you are Hispanic, you are highly favored. When did the preservation of Mexican language and culture become a job of the Church? Also, having a mass in Spanish in my parents' parish was a slap in the face to the HUGE Filipino population who had long been asking for permission to have mass in Tagolog ONCE A MONTH. I don't get it. I just don't get it. Well, actually, I do. It's the crowd from the seminary in San Antonio. Bishop Barnes is part of that group. Isn't Mahoney also connected somehow?

Barnes ruined a great parish by insisting that the pastor be moved and be replaced with a "lay administrator" and a "priest minister." Right in the middle of a major building project. It USED to be the parish with the greatest amount of funds from the bishop's annual appeal and from weekly tithing. The bishop, true to his style, shit on the parish and left them without a pastor. "You're a strong parish. That's why we know you can handle it." No they were a strong parish because they had strong priestly, fatherly leadership. I mean, the two previous pastors would read aloud from Canon Law during their homilies to remind everyone, priests included, of their rights, and obligations as Catholics. Anyway, I rant. This is one of the reasons I don't go to mass anymore. It's too infuriating.

I forgot to mention that the "lay administrator" is married to a Protestant.
