Sunday Mass was dragon-free, as it always is in the Traditional Latin Mass chapels. Having left the Novus Ordo for good at Easter, I've been touring the Latin Mass sites in LA and Orange County.
Today it was Our Lady of the Angels in Arcadia (SSPX). I've heard better preaching, but this church had the best bookstore I've seen so far. Among other things, they have many out-of-print Catholic classics.

Where is the preaching better on the TLM circuit?
9:30am Mass at St. Bartholomew's in Long Beach. The Creed was actually professed today for the 1st time in at least a month (hurrah!!!). The piano accompaniment was, as usual, grating. The best, however, was our priest starting his homily apologizing for the "harshness" of the gospel and he immediately started talking about how inclusive the Church is. Sigh......another opportunity missed.
Thankfully I attended Mass at noon Friday at St. Peter Chanel. Fr. Ed gave another cracking sermon. The Oblates are doing a fantastic job over there.

Also, I've noticed there recently that the priests are chanting the consecration (good), but the piano is faintly playing in the background (prohibited - I thought).
From way up in the diocese of Monterey:
Well, I did not go to any mass here, but instead drove 1 hour north to Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara. The Saturday evening Mass at 730PM is always in Latin, Novus Ordo every weekend except on the 1st Saturday of the Month when the 1962 Missal is used. I know there were no anticipitory Masses in the 1962 Missal, but it is the closest we have to Monterey.
Our homeschooled children are learning Latin, and it is a joy to hear them sing the Creed, the Kyrie, all the propers to us. The priest, an Irishman whom i do not know, gave a very good homily on the readings, and did not shy away from the more difficult aspects. Overall, a beautiful experience, and a nice intro to work about 3 hours later.
What i would give to have a TLM in the Diocese of Monterey! Ave Maria, Gratia plena, Ora pro Nobis!

I thought your bishop was retired or retiring.
On my way to mass, I ran into a magical dragon who said he lived by the sea. He was frolicking in the autumn mist and claimed to be from Hanna Lee.
The dragon lied. I see now that he was from LA.

In my opinion, the best preaching on the Latin Mass circuit is at Our Lady Help of Christians, Garden Grove. The chapel is packed for the 8 and 10 am Masses.
People regularly have to be turned away for before-Mass confessions because the line is so long. If you need to go to confession in order to receive Holy Communion, get there an hour before Mass.

Isn't Our Lady Help of Christians a SSPX chapel? Which would mean that the priests do not have faculties to hear confessions. Hence, their confessions would not be valid. If one must go to a SSPX Mass, that it is one thing. But it is not advisable to go to confession or be married by SSPX priests. A priest needs faculties from the local ordinary for the validity of these sacraments.
One shouldn't be going to SSPX chapels anyway. No matter how reverent and faithful they are, they're in schism.
In regards to Bishop Ryan of Monterey:
One month ago onthe 3rd of September, he submitted his resignation to the Papal Nuncio. Whether it has been accepted or not, if he is asked to stay on remains to be seen. There is no priest in this Diocese who I could see becoming Bishop. Hopefully we get someone from outside the Diocese, like in Pheonix, or the Canadian who was recently named to head a new Diocese in Honduras. Keep our little Diocese in your prayers.

Besides, think of the entertainment value alone. How can you beat going to the Taj Mahony to celebrate Chinese New Year (including a dragon) and still fulfill your Sunday obligation at the same time?

Our Lady of the Angels in Arcadia is SSPX. Our Lady Help of Christians in Garden Grove is classified as an "independent" chapel; the priests do not belong to a religious order.

I would not think that attending a Mass at an SSPX chapel or an independent chapel would make one schismatic. The Church permits a Catholic to receive sacraments from an Eastern orthodox church in certain circumstances, even though the Orthodox are clearly schismatic. Attending an Orthodox Liturgy does not make one Orthodox. The Traditional Latin Mass itself is valid, and it certainly is a more appropriate way to worship God than is the Novus Ordo, especially the way that the Novus Ordo is peformed in the L.A. archdiocese. I believe that there are Cardinals on record (including our present Pope) who have said that a Catholic can fulfill his Sunday obligation at a SSPX Mass. I would say that one should not attend a SSPX or independent Mass if there are viable licit options, and\or if it is a cause of scandal to others,
