Read about him HERE.

Gomez would be great, but he'll need lots of prayer. L.A. is a wasteland and any man who is appointed archbishop will have a heavy cross to bear, thanks to Mahony.

Don't you think this sort of speculation is a little premature??? Let us leave Archbishop Gomez to cleanse San Antonio first! They are in need of a renewed seminary for one thing.

Of course, then LA needs a seminary! This would be a huge change--Mahoney to an Opus Dei Bishop! It would be grand!

Ave Maria!

Why would Archbishop Gomez be moved to LA? He is already an ArchBishop. If he is elevated to Cardinal he would not need to move. It is more likely in my opinion that Bishop will be elevated to Archbishop.

Why? As a Texan I could answer that.It would be because he is a wonderful, gentle Catholic Archbishop with a backbone. He would not be named because of his race. People of all colors need him in Texas and people of all races would benefit from his leadership in LA. LA will need the backbone.

The part about Mahony serving until 80 sent a chill up my spine. Let's hope we don't have to wait until 2011 until a change is made; maybe Cardinal Mahony can be the associate pastor at St. Mary Major ;)

Would love to see Archbishop Gomez here. Or Archbishop Chaput. Or Bishop Olmstead (I hear he speaks Spanish). If the good people of Oakland can get a good bishop, so can we. At least we know it can't get any worse......

Quintero -- You're late to the party, dear; I wrote about this last December:

"Smart money might just shift that spec a bit, that the road to L.A. starts in S.A. Naysayers would be wise to remember a place called Ayacucho...."

Some "bluster," no?
