Discredited 'visionary' to appear at LA Cathedral

That's right. Vassula Ryden will be on the docket of speakers at the upcoming "Key to Christian Unity Conference" to be held at Cardinal Mahony's cathedral on January 28th.

In October 1995, the Congregration for the Doctrine of the Faith, under the direction of then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, issued a 'notification' regarding Ryden.

" ... this Congregation requests the intervention of the Bishops so that their faithful may be suitably informed and that no opportunity may be provided in their Dioceses for the dissemination of her ideas. Lastly, the Congregation invites all the faithful not to regard Mrs. Vassula Ryden's writings and speeches as supernatural and to preserve the purity of the faith that the Lord has entrusted to the Church."
A further clarification was issued by the CDF about a year later.

A host of others -- bishops and theologians, including the current Prefect of the CDF, Archbishop Levada -- have issued statements warning the faithful about the dangerous ideas and scandalous practices of Vassula Ryden. [source]

In view of these facts, one would expect the Cardinal to intervene immediately in the matter and insist that Vassula Ryden's invitation to speak at the cathedral be rescinded. Don't hold your breath, though. This is L.A., the home of the Religious Education Congress which year after year invites truckloads of Vassula types and worse to disseminate their dangerous doctrines among the unsuspecting faithful.

It seems like you have your hands full in L.A., an endless opportunity to post what many would consider absurd. Keep up the good work

Supernatural? That is also a good word for theology, isn't it?

JOSEPH D'HIPPOLITO SAYS...

What, Deepak Chopra was too expensive?

;)

Seriously, however, what specifically does she preach that the Church finds to be such a problem? I'm not defending her; I just haven't been able to find any information about specifics other than she's a visionary.

I once wrote the Cardinal on the Archdiocese website with a criticism and he responded. I did frame the note with much reconciliatory language. I wonder if confronted with the knowledge he might not altar his coarse, sometimes people in powerful places are under an illusion no one knows or cares. Sometimes I think the Cardinal is a little deranged.

Is this really a surprise? How many times have the Medjugorje frauds appeared in parishes across this country with the blessings of dozens of bishops and countless priests and laity tripping all over themselves to see them?

Twice I've asked the "seer" Ivan at shows here in San Diego how the Blessed Mother - the one dogmatically declared the Immaculate Conception by the Church - can pray the Our Father's words, "forgive us our trespasses." Isn't Our Lady supposed to be sinless? Either Our Lady of Lourdes lied to St. Bernadette or the "Gospa" is lying. Which is it Ivan?

Both times, a sly grin and a "god bless you" with a pat on the shoulder. And the daggar eyes from his handlers as they whisk him away make it all worthwhile.

Sorry, don't mean to upset the Gospa Gravy Train, man! Just looking for the truth.

In response to whoever said Jesus praises Vassula constantly, that is totally FALSE, He doesn't He is always telling her of her unworthiness and wretchedness, He said, He chose her because of her utter wretchedness and to show the world His mercy through her. He has given her messages for the benefit of the Church. They have resulted in many many conversions. I entered the Catholic Faith because of these messages and left a life of MORTAL SIN because of these messages. The love God pours out in these are immense, As Christ told Saint Gertrude the Great, in the times when peoples hearts would have grown cold to the love of God, it would be then that He would share the riches of His Sacred HEart, and so He is. These are one of the greatest treasures in our times. Please also read the update between the CDF and Vassula at this link: http://tlig.org/cdf3.html

God Bless,

It is extremely sad for me to see that some people, even those who claim to love Christ, including priests, cannot recognize Christ in the messages of True Life in God given to Vassula Ryden since 1985. I don't care what anybody says about her or about the messages, the fact that the messages are published in 42 languages and have thousands and thousands of followers around the world, should lead the skeptics to believe. The messages are too profound and too divine to be written by any person on the face of this planet, let alone Vassula Ryden who absolutely had no theological background at the time she was receiving these messages. These skeptics need to read the messages of True Life in God first, asking God for discernment, before launching to slander. I myself was converted because of these messages in a profound way, along with thousands of people like me, who were given the grace of getting to know Christ in such a special way.
