On the eve of the bishops' arrival

Our U.S. bishops will be arriving now for their annual spring meeting here in L.A., June 14-17.

Let us hope and pray that good will come out of the meeting. But let us also hope and pray that, starting Wednesday and continuing through Saturday, enough Catholics in L.A. will join Concerned Roman Catholics of America outside the Millennium Biltmore luxury hotel at 506 South Grand, downtown, to picket in enough numbers that the bishops and the public will get the message: We want a faithful translation of the Mass, we want more Latin Tridentine Masses, we want the Lavender Mafia put out of business and we want an end to a free ride in the Church for pro-abortion politicians.

That is not too much to ask for. And if you agree, please come downtown and say so, out loud and in public, with Concerned Roman Catholics of America. For information, e-mail crcoa@earthlink.net or visit www.crcoa.com or see CRCOA's comments at recent posts here.

Can't you add getting rid of Mahony to that list? (Or is that a given?)

I'll be there in spirit.

I just wonder exactly who you mean by the phrase "lavender mafia". Can you be more specific about who they are and what they've done? I know it's a phrase that's tossed around alot, but casually-tossed phrases can be a hindrance to clarity, moral and otherwise.

Thanks...

You don't know to whom the phrase refers?

Please.

Nice try.

I know what you're trying to start with your assertion dressed as a question.

I encourge this "person" be ignored.

Anonymous 5:52 need only ask Father Andrew Greeley what the term means. He's the one who coined it.

I hope the bishops actually accomplish something. Oh wait, that would be too much to ask for.

Sorry, Simon-Peter, but you're being too suspicious here...

If we are being asked to come out and demonstrate in public for/against certain ideas & people, it just seems reasonable to be very clear about exactly who those people are. A general term like "lavender mafia" doesn't seem specific enough.

If you put just that phrase on a sign to hold up at the demonstration, "Mo More Lavender Mafia" it might look eye-catching, but wouldn't it be clearer to say
"So-and So Should Resign For (reasons)", if you see what I mean.

So whose names should be on the signs and what should the signs say about them, specifically?

Not everybody who might see those signs on the street would have read Andrew Greeley, etc.

I'm just saying it's good to be clear and be specific...in fact, it's absolutely essential, if you want to make the most sense to the most people! Catch-phrases have their limits.

If you're going downtown, why not bring some WWRD bracelets?

Just got back from the Biltmore Hotel, pretty amazing thing to watch Bishops and priests walking around, some with wearing their clerics and others not! The lay faithful need to show up tommorow thru Saturday we need to publically show the Bishops we are fed up with what is happening in the church here in the United States! If you truely can't make it pray and fast for the Bishops but we really need the layfaithful out there!
