They really hate pro-lifers

A sickening characteristic of virtually every "liberal" Catholic, guaranteed, is that they never, ever criticize anti-lifers but they sure do rip into pro-lifers all they want.

Exhibit A in the "sickening characteristic" department is, you guessed it, Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mahony's Archdiocesan newspaper The Tidings for letting Father Richard McBrien vent his spleen against pro-lifers in many an issue.

Father McBrien's and The Tidings's latest attack on pro-lifers is "Pro-Birth vs. Pro-Life," his column (click on this post's title) in the current issue. He mentions "some measure of resentment [his own included, obviously] regarding the co-opting of the term 'pro-life' by religious conservatives closely identified with the anti-abortion movement."

He is completely wrong about this. It is the "liberals" who co-opted the term. The name "pro-life" was in use many years BEFORE Cardinal Bernardin and others invented their "seamless [seamy] garment" / "broad range of issues" dodge to co-opt it.

Father McBrien writes that "we might consider referring henceforth to the self-described pro-life contingent within the U.S. Christian community as 'pro-birth' rather than as 'pro-life.'" And he admits that he first heard this notion from the dissenter Sister Joan Chittister.

Among the issues to which Father McBrien claims we have to subscribe in order to be truly "pro-life" is "non-discrimination based on race, religion, ethnicity and sexual orientation."

We need to tell Father McBrien, the board of The Tidings and Cardinal Mahony to turn the equation around: "You cannot be 'pro-life' unless you are anti-abortion and actively so. Stop criticizing pro-lifers and start criticizing anti-lifers -- as often, as severely and as long, decades long, as you have criticized the pro-life activists whose baby-saving you should emulate."

This is another attempt to give a moral fig leaf to the Democratic party and the left as they continue to support the slaughter of innocents. So Fr. McBrien thinks our youngest are less important, than say "equitable tax policies?" As an apologist for abortionists, Fr. McBrien should be excommunicated.

Looks like he's under investigation for plagairism again:

More Plagairism Charges

He's intellectually as well as morally bankrupt.

Over 4000 a day, 28,000 a week, 120,000 a month, and 1.5 million a year. That is the death rate of babies in this country.

McBrien and his fellow travellers are so concerned with the "rights" of individuals to sin rather than the saving of souls and lives. In is time the Church excommunicates these parasites that answer more to the Father of Lies rather than God our Father.

I, for one, am starting to prefer the term "abortion abolitionist," primarily because it recalls the struggles of our forefathers in the Civil War.

At the same same, I've never had any qualms about being labelled "anti-abortion." I am. What's the big deal?

Ok, you can call us pro-birth as long as you call the other side anti-birth.

Dear Capt Tom and Consan,

Maybe excommunication, on several counts, would wake him up. Worth a try!

Dear Jared,

Yes, "anti-abortion" is a proud label, along with "pro-life" and "right to life."

Your term "abortion abolitionist" is really interesting. We should all start spreading it around.

You're welcome Quintero. I think that Fr. McBrien jumped the shark awhile back. This isn't the first time he's attacked Pro-Lifers:

Fr. McBrien Attacks Pro-Life Bishops

Since the revisionists in the Church started losing power, he's gotten progressively bitter.
