Bishops buying homes
Possibly you have seen reports and comments on the Web about a bishop or two buying nice houses for individual priests.
Imagine the good that could result for the Catholic flock and for communities as a whole if instead of buying houses for individual priests, bishops would buy houses -- and lots of them -- to turn them into pro-life pregnancy counseling centers and homes for unwed moms.
Bishops could focus on buying houses or office space next to abortion businesses.
But, apparently, for many bishops, to do that they would need to change their mindsets and spiritual outlooks about 180 degrees. We should encourage them to get started on that course or else to resign and make way for bishops who will help moms and babies.

No priest has any business living any place but in a parrish rectory.
Hey, maybe these bishops took a few pointers from His Xcellency, bishop WEAKland, on how to divert diocesan funds for personal use. Only that Weakland didn't have the gumption to buy a house to go to when he retired in disgrace.
But then, I don't believe anyone thinks they'll retire in disgrace.

This is no different than Soviet apparachiks -- who always claimed to be working for the common man, just like our bishops claim to support the poor -- riding around in limozines, owning nice summer dachas on the Black Sea coast and getting the best quality goods available while the "proletariat" had to content themselves with standing on line for six hours for two squares of toilet paper!
The Soviet and Catholic examples are part of the same mentality, despite the inexorable opposition of their respective ideologies. That mentality is a mentality of entitlement because of exalted status. Bishops and some priests -- like Soviet apparachiks -- are part of a closed system that isolates its members, encourages arrogance, demands blind deference and actively fights against accountability and transparency.
Given the mediocrity of human nature, why should we expect anything different?
Given the prophecies of Jeremiah and Ezekiel, why should we expect religious authorities to behave any differently?
