They will never change

"Liberals" always claim that "conservatives" resist change. But no one has ever resisted change so rigidly and relentlessly as Catholic "liberals" today and those of the last four decades.

Case in point:

The Catholic News Agency today notes (click on this post's title) that after an 18-month probe, the Special Panel of Clergy Misconduct, of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois, has given the diocese an eight-page [is that all?] report that contains blockbuster admissions.

One of the admissions is [quoting the CNA article about the report] "that former Bishop Daniel Ryan engaged in improper sexual conduct — namely multiple homosexual relationships with male prostitutes and other priests or deacons — and used his office to conceal his activities. His conduct created a culture of secrecy in the diocese, discouraging faithful priests from coming forward with information."

Incidentally, the indefatigable watchdog group Roman Catholic Faithful has said that all along, after uncovering it and documenting it -- and has been savaged for it.

But the reason this post is titled, "They will never change" is that the panel, according to the CNA article, says "priests who have engaged in grave sexual misconduct, excluding misconduct with minors, but who have [here quoting the report] 'admitted their failings, have undergone treatment, and are actively engaged in aftercare may be considered to return to ministry.'”

The CNA article also says, "In the case of priests who engaged in misconduct, the panel said they may return to public ministry 'provided there is clear and convincing evidence that person has acknowledged wrongdoing, repented and is sufficiently in recovery so as not to present a threat to the spiritual, psychological, or physical well-being of himself or others.'”

Unbelievable. Catholic "liberals" will never change; they will never admit that such priests do not belong in the priesthood. To that extent, "liberal' Catholics are enablers of such priests.

Sad.

"Liberal" Catholics are such a disgrace to our faith. Let us pray for their conversion.

I'd suggest to the panelists that they start by allowing THEIR children to be exposed (so to speak) to these animals.

Well, this is what you get when you have compasion uberalis. Only that the recipient of the compassion is the wolf and not the sheep the wolf has sacttered.

But, the bishops have a lot to do with whether these impostors of Christ remain in active ministry or not. My husband and I went to a foreign country to get justice for a relative of ours, a seminarian no less, who was raped by a priest. We confronted this vile man with his crime and he didn't deny what he did. He also admited to having special relationships with men. Eventhough he acknowledged that he phyically attacked and then sexually assaulted our relative, he he remained unrepentant.

We then sought and got an audience with the bishop. And he assured us that he would see that justice would be served and that our relative's well-being "matters above all." We, on the otherhand made it clear that we want justice and not revenge and that we wanted to face this horrible problem in a Biblical manner. We told him that we have taken the first two steps that are exhorted by Matthew in 18:15-17. However, if we do not obtain justice, we made it very clear that we would take the third step. These events took place late last year.

And now we have gotten reports that the bishop is draggin his feet and making exuces for keeping this man in active ministry. He's even told our relative that the priest is a " such hard worker," and that he otherwise he does his "job" well" that it would be hard to kick him out.

Our relative has continued insisting that justice be done. So the bishop told him to get ready for an ecclesiastic tribunal. And now, with much hardship to us, we have to go back and "go public" Because of the bishop protecting this horrible man. We aren't going to let our loved face this alone.

You know, were not rich. In going to help our relative, we will be spending money that it took months to earn. This is another way in which a sin against someone is also a social sin.

I think this bishop, as well as other bishops, have got their priorities and obligations all wrong. Instead of finding the sheep the wolves in their fold have scattered, these bishops protect the wolf and stay satisfied with the amount of sheep left in the fold. After all, what's a few missing sheep. There's still plenty left.

Please pray for us! And our upcoming journey.

Dear BobND,

If it is "all in the control of the situation," that is the problem.

a) It is impossible to "control the situation," impossible to stop such offenders from re-offending. So many of the offenders of the past several decades met all the conditions -- rehab, claiming they were sorry, etc.

b) Does the Church need clergy who are so objectively disordered and unstable that they need to be kept under tight control? I say no.

Whatever we can learn from liberals, it is not in the area of sex-offendng clergy.

Dear MVH,

My heart goes out to you, your husband and your relative. It is not easy to tell the public about such things. You are very courageous to share this story; may it do much good to help people understand what goes on.

I will keep your journey in prayer, and surely every reader and commenter here will, too.

I wish every Catholic in the Archdiocese of L.A. could read the testimony you have given here.

God bless!

It is time that the seminarians learn the art of self defense and justifiably use it on these jerks!

Perhaps a pre-requisite for seminary training should be just that!

I have a buddy who had that training; and when he was confronted with this in the seminary, he let it be known that he would use it. THE OFFENDING SEMIARIAN STOPPED BUGGING HIM!

Kenneth,

If you know of any seminarians who want to learn, I'm a fourth degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and over 15 years of experience in that art and others.

Send 'em my way. Seriously.

Springfield is my home diocese. Bp. Lucas has been dealing with the impossible task of trying to reign the diocese in over the last few years.

It is no secret that Bp. Ryan made the priests of our diocese his concubines, and that the main requirement for ordination was being an active homosexual. Bp. Lucas has slowly but surely taken care of those priests who were enablers of Bp. Ryan. To those were not enablers, but were simply a product of the system, he has told them "Go and sin no more." I have no doubt that they will be out on their butts if they commit even one transgression.

Dear Kenneth,

It might be that Anonymous 3:15 p.m. recalls ole Q's spotlighting abortion zealot Senator "Chuckie" Schumer (D-NY) for recently inciting violence against pro-lifers by falsely claiming the Founding Fathers took up arms against people like us.

Dear Jared,

Everyone of good will can see from your frequent comments here that you are a "right guy."

And everyone of good will knows that all men, women and children everywhere have the God-given right to protect themselves against crimes of violence.

Q, c'mon, where were the crimes of violence that would've provoked Jared's invitation to a lil' karate lesson? The fact that you consider Jared a "right guy" doesn't absolve him of responsibility....does it?..I mean if you were in fact to send some seminarians his way?

Jared...."don't be childish".....reference your own response. Furthermore, what if these seminarians have a ground game? If they did, you might "hi-yaw!" your way into a submission.

I guess ole AnOnYmOus remembers the quote when Jesus said, "Those who live by the sword . . .Mt:51-53" from which a good argument for pacifism can be made. However, Jesus also said in Luke 22:35-38 that if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.

Now if you say that The Lord was using figures of speech you just might be right. But, you have to prove that The Lord was speaking figuratively and not just state it! For example, explain what The Lord meant the sword to represent.

Jesus tended to correct the Disciples when they didn't understand what He said to them. For example, in Matthew 16:5-12, Jesus warns the Disciples against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees. The Disciples start talking amongst themselves about bread, as in a loaf of bread. Jesus basically tells them, "C'mon guys, how could you not know that I was not referring to food?"

P.S. Thanks, Quintero and everyone else for your prayers. We will need all the help we can get!

P.S.S. Jared, if my relative ever comes to this country I'll send him your way.

Q, MVH, Kenneth: Thank you.

Anonymous: Absolutely nothing in my comments was meant or could be construed to incite violence. Read the comments again. Kenneth stated that seminarians should learn self-defense. My offer to "send them my way" was an offer to teach them so that they could defend themselves against unwanted advances. That is all. Perhaps if you'd learned to read more thoroughly without jumping to your own preconceived conclusions, you might not have been so embarrassingly wrong.

And oh yeah, your knowledge of TKD is lacking as well and once again, you allow your preconceived notions to blind you to the truth. My instructors taught all forms of SELF-DEFENSE, including your "lil" ground game. So, as the man said, "That dog don't hunt," either.

Jared....I can shoot laser beams out my eyes, and that trumps anything your instructor taught you. So, that dog don't bark either......I reckon! What is the point of even responding to this kinda stuff lil' fella? Go ply your "trade" in some Civil War re-enactments or something.

Anonymous: What is your point in posting here? Do you get some kind of joy from exposing your lack of knowledge/reading comprehension/humor?

You've been proved wrong in your previous assertions, a fact which, had you but read the previous comments, would've been more than obvious to you. A civilized individual would take this opportunity of yours to apologize for jumping the gun. Others would simply slink off into the wasteland from whence they came. Anonymous,

Teaching Seminarians how to defend themselves when they are attacked would be, in most peoples books, a work of mercy.

jared nor I , are not advocating that they fight for no reason. Doesn't the FACT that my buddy was able to fend these jerks off because he knew Martial Arts mean anything to you? Because he knew the Martial Arts and was able to tell his would be molester so, he was able to avoid breaking their necks. Had he not had such training, he might be another unfortunate case lost for the Faith!

"jared nor I , are advocating that they fight for no reason. Doesn't the FACT that my buddy was able to fend these jerks off because he knew Martial Arts mean anything to you? Because he knew the Martial Arts and was able to tell his would be molester so, he was able to avoid breaking his neck.
