This is the reward the Cardinal gives the mayor

What do you do when someone for whom you've done a favor kicks you in the teeth?

You do him another favor -- at least, you do, if you are Cardinal Mahony and The Tidings.

The Cardinal, you'll recall, did a huge political favor for flaming pro-abortion mayor-elect Antonio Villaraigosa in June 2005 by hosting a big interfaith prayer service at the Cathedral for him and then prominently walking beside him all the way to the inauguration.

The mayor returned that favor in the last few weeks by coming out in L.A. radio ads against pro-life, pro-family Proposition 85, the Parents' Right to Know and Child Protection Initiative, which Cardinal Mahony supported all summer and fall -- and which lost last Tuesday, 46%-54%.

So has The Tidings ripped Villaraigosa for being an ingrate to the Cardinal, not to mention being fanatically pro-abortion? Nope -- although this week's issue does carry one letter to the editor that chides The Tidings for not mentioning the mayor's opposition to Prop 85.

And last week's issue of The Tidings actually rewarded Villaraigosa -- by giving him a puff piece and photo for nothing more than holding a routine proclamation ceremony.

So: When Villaraigosa made his anti-life, anti-85 radio ads, did he know he would have little to fear from Cardinal Mahony? Unfortunately, the answer would seem to be yes.

By the way, did you know that "Villaraigosa" is not the mayor's birth name? His original surname was Villar. In his younger days he was called Tony Villar. When he and a lady named Raigosa married, they combined their names.

As Jesus commanded, he's turning the other cheek.

You all are never going to get respect from Protestants until you start reading all of the bible.

Hoodlum,

Where the heck do you think you got your shortened version of the Bible?

I say shortened because your so called Reformers deliberately took out several books and changed many words.

Read the last paragraph of even your Bible.

By the way, I have read the entire Bible several times and am still reading it, but I am reading the one authorized by the Founding Fathers, the Duohay Rheims!

Dear Hoodlum,

Christians are to turn the other cheek when someone strikes them.

But that in no way means we are to stand by and let others strike the cheek of little ones who have no one to speak for them but us.

When it is babies' cheeks that are being struck, so to speak -- when preborn babies are being killed, Christians have a duty to speak up for the babies and especially to not reward the politicians who are the abortionists' defenders.
