Is help really on the way for the Mass?

Have you seen the Catholic News Agency story of Dec. 15 (click on this post's title) that says "sources confirm" that a motu proprio to allow free celebration of the Tridentine Mass "will come soon?"

The story also says an apostolic exhortation on the Eucharist will come after January 15 and will:

affirm the celibate priesthood,
encourage Latin in the liturgy,
ask that seminarians learn Latin,
foster Gregorian chant and sacred polyphonic music.

But if these documents do not contain teeth, the chances that certain of our U.S. bishops will go along with them quickly and fully are, as Dizzy Dean, the old-time pitcher, would say, two: Slim and none.

Nevertheless, let us hope and pray that this news, which seems too good to be true, will come to pass. Amen!

As my pastor replied when I asked him why abuses continue, "The bishop chooses NOT to implement Redemtionis Sacramentum" because "Rome does not understand how we do things here" and "we are waiting for further american adaptions'.

So muuch for the obedience of my bishop in this and many other matters.
He is on the immigration bandwagon however.

Can we confirm that Dizzy Dean was pro-life? If not, I don't think you should be quoting him on this most righteous blog.

The bishop chooses NOT to...
Sounds like blatant disobedience. How far is it from schism, apostacy, etc.?

Dear Anonymous 10:19 a.m.,

Hope this and all Catholic blogs are righteous in the right sense, but never self-righteous.

If we call abortion evil, that does not mean we have no compassion for those who have had the huge misfortune of being involved with it.

On the contrary, we just say to them, "Jesus loves you and He is waiting for you in Confession. Pour out your heart to Him and receive forgiveness."

We also say, "Contact Project Rachel or your local pro-lifers and experience their love and help and friendship."

I know you were being sarcastic in mentioning Dizzy Dean. But the odds are that Ol'Diz (1910-1974) was pro-life, because most Americans were before Roe.

Well, this would be nice. But it's not like this all hasn't been said before...(um..let's see Musicam Sacram, Sacrosanctum Concilium, Redemptoris Sacramentum...shall I go on?) Does the Vatican have an ecclesiastical cattle prod, perhaps? Mabye the ecclesiastical hammer would be in order? "I promise obedience...when it's convenient!"

Dear Anoymous 9:06 p.m.,

Well, there are rumbles since this past Sunday, first reported by Whispers in the Loggia, that Detroit retired Bishop Thomas Gumbleton said "Rome" is removing him from his St. Leo Parish.

Sounds like some kind of hammer.

Guess we'll all be hearing more about this situation.

I have been told that the document actually states that NO Bishop can countermand this. Now as to whether this will actually be enforced?

Rome dreams of being a paper tiger.

Tridentine vs Novus Ordo is a distraction and a waste of time. We can't get bishop to follow the most basic tenants of the faith and you're worried about whether or not the mass is celebrated in Latin? What planet do you people come from? Is there any oxygen there?

This is a smoke screen - a giant flanking movement designed to get the people of God looking in the wrong direction! Mahoney and his ilk pay no more attention to anything out of Rome than most people pay to the National Enquirer. To see just how serious this motu proprio is in the big scheme of things, substitute the words, "Debbie Gibson Pregnant with Elvis' Two-Headed Love Child" for motu proprio. Now you're thinking about the subject with same level of attention and dedication of the vast, vast majority of bishops.

To the hierarchy the church was simply a choice of vocation and, for most, the only other option was welfare.

Wake up, Catholics!

Dear Anonymous 3:46 a.m.,

I've answered you at a later comment you've made on another post, but what I said there was:

Thank you for writing, and a check of the texts of the Tridentine and Novus Ordo Masses shows a great difference in the two, and how much has been taken from us.

We do need the Tridentine Mass back, even in English!
