I thank God that most of the Los Angeles area cable companies do not carry EWTN!

I watched the show with my wife and it was very helpful to her as a fairly new (3 years) Catholic. I hope the folks at EWTN continue to track this issue, which I'm sure they will. It was an interesting moment when Raymond read EWTN's statement and they were sidetracked onto Bishop Foley. I hope and pray that the Holy Father moves swiftly to name a replacement that will remove the restriction on televising ad orientem masses.

As an aside, I wrote the editor of The Tidings asking why the MP did not warrant a news article and I actually received a response. It appears that The Tidings only updates their websites once/week on Thursday, so the story should be up Friday as well as be in the print edition. I'm very curious to see the Cardinal's response.

Dear Paul in Long Beach,

Thank you for the news about you and your wife. Glad you are lobbying The Tidings.

We all need to lobby everywhere we can for the Tridentine Latin Mass, because the liberals will find excuses, place roadblocks, etc.

Dear Anonymous 6:58 p.m.,

Seriously, if I were you I would leave God out of it when saying you are glad EWTN is not on everywhere. He might not like you citing Him in dissing orthodox Catholic programming.

Dear Quintero,
While EWTN's programming is indeed orthodox, it is not at all comprehensive. It only gives us some of the richness of the Catholic Faith, unfortunately, providing a skewed vision of Catholicism. The potential is there, but as for now, I am reminded that that half-truths are sometimes worse than lies.

I think the same can be said of partial truth. EWTN does as least as much harm as it does good, and that's why I thank God it is not available on most Los Angeles area cable systems.

Dear Anonymous 1:54 a.m.,

I can't think of any specific harm that EWTN does. They do not have liberal shows, but that is good.

EWTN does not give a forum to Fr. McBrien, Fr. Reese, the roster of speakers of Cardinal Mahony's Religious Ed. Congress, Call to Action, VOTF, Catholics for a Free Choice [sic], Dignity, etc.

Dear Qunitero,
It's what EWTN does not do--its "sins" of omission, as it were--that makes it harmful because of the skewed vision of Catholicism it presents.
