What the U.S. bishops have said about Summorum Pontificum

You can see our U.S. bishops' material on Summorum Pontificum at this pdf file:

Some of their remarks might prompt some comment.

Has there been any statement from the Cardinal Archbishop of Los Angeles? He has been unusually silent about the Motu Proprio. I've searched high and low on the archdiocesan website and the Tidings and, well, nothing.

Why would Cardinal Mahony need to say anything? The situation created by Summorum Pontificum requires no episcopal action unless a problem arises. How could a problem arise when the directives do not go into effect until mid-September?

Dear Anonymous 7:46 a.m.,

The new issue of The Tidings has two items from the Catholic News Service. One is a news story that summarizes the Motu Proprio, and the other is a list of main points about it.

Nothing from the Cardinal yet.

Dear Anonymous 10:56 a.m.,

Well, the Cardinal COULD say he welcomes Summorum Pontificum, is happy about it and will tell his pastors to obey it fully.

Episcopal action is needed right now to reassure all Catholics that the bishops' foot-dragging response to Ecclesia Dei will NOT be repeated this time around.

Actually, a check of the websites of a few "conservative" bishops shows they have not made any statements yet, either. Bishop Bruskewitz did appear on EWTN last Monday, though, and he is clearly happy about the new Motu Proprio.
