More about that imagined ordination of women up north

Commenters want to know more about the imagined ordination of women I mentioned in the previous post, so I've done some searches on the Web.

The event took place in Santa Barbara this past July 22, according to a local news article (click on this post's title). A Patricia Fresen, who imagines she was previously ordained a bishop, officiated.

In the comments under that news article, the author of the article, Martha Sadler, says, "Roman Catholic Church leadership--from Archbishop Mahoney [sic] to [Santa Barbara Regional] Bishop [Thomas] Curry to Father Virgil and others--declined to comment on the subject of the women's ordination."

The story says the event "took place at an interfaith center in Santa Barbara that reporters agreed not to name in exchange for an invitation to attend."

http://www.calcatholic.com/ reported on July 30 that the event was at a retreat center called La Casa de Maria.

At lacasademaria.org you will find gems such as that their events for 2008 will include "The Great Tree Turns to Ash." Sounds like a panel on the Cathedral's big doors, no? Right up there with "Raven Eating Man's Liver."

You will also find an event entitled, "8th Annual Barrett Conference on the Ministry of All Women." Some Web probing indicates that this "Barrett" was Episcopal Bishop George Barrett (d. 2000), a flaming pro-abort.

Barrett's obit from the L.A. Episcopalian Diocese mentions that his "1975 'irregular' ordination of women to the priesthood" got him "temporarily barred from ministry in the Episcopal Church but helped spur its General Convention to formal action a year later."

The obit noted that Barrett was on the board of directors of Planned Parenthood of Santa Barbara and was its executive director, 1972-1977. The obit also said:

"...La Casa de Maria named the central building of its Ladera Lane campus in commemoration of Barrett’s 20 years of active participation on La Casa’s board of directors and his leadership in supporting its programs."

A La Casa de Maria "Holidays, 2007" -- that's right, "Holidays," not "Christmas" -- "Capital Campaign" fundraising letter lists Fr. Virgil Cordano, OFM, as one of three "Honorary Co-Chairs" and Bishop Thomas Curry as a member of the "Honorary Committee."

Also among the honorary committee members is Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-Calif.), a nationally notorious pro-abort.

Why would a "vow of secrecy" on the part of the media be necessary?
Why would the Cardinal, or any other Church authority feel a need to comment on a non-event?
A public figure being named to an honorary position is problematic. Did the Franciscan priest or any other "honorary" give permission to use their names?

Dear Dean,

Guess the asking for a news media vow of secrecy was because either the facility or the group, or both, wanted to avoid consequences of the illicit activity.

The retreat center is in a ritzy area and is in the middle of a capital campaign. Being disavowed by ecclesiastical authority for hosting an illicit ordination might crimp the fundraising.

The event was an event, not a non-event. Heretics acted. Don't you believe anymore that a bishop's duty is to teach Catholic doctrine, fight heresy, and guide and guard the faithful from error and confusion?

How many groups list people on their masthead without those people's permission? Not many.

Feminine Thelogy at its finest again Q. The Bishops are supposed to teach Catholic Doctorine. (although to my knowledge I've only heard one Catholic thing from the Cardinal this year)

Q~

Was that phony ordination ceremony held at Casa Maria which is owned by the wayward and non-canonical IHM's?

Dear McIntyre,

You have a good handle there, in "McIntyre."

The Casa de Maria web site says:

"In 2005, we celebrated 50 years of service to the community. In that same year La Casa returned to the ownership of the Immaculate Heart Community which founded it."

The web site also says this:

"The Immaculate Heart Community welcomes the opportunity to preserve and renew this beloved Santa Barbara sanctuary and we invite you to come to this holy ground where people of all faiths and diverse spiritual paths can seek and find nourishment."

On its web site, the Immaculate Heart Community calls itself "a non-profit Ecumenical Chrstian Community."

On that web site, Marie Egan, IHM, writes the following -- for which we all need to make prayers of reparation to Jesus and Mary:

"Our logo is a symbol of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It is a great symbol, a wonderful reminder of who Mary was in her own time and how her reality can continue to encourage and strengthen every woman, every man, every child. I hasten to note that the Immaculate Heart does not stand for some kind of sexual inviolability or perfect sinlessness, but rather — at least in my view — suggests more the single-minded focus on God that characterized Mary's life."

To emphasize: She writes, "some kind of sexual inviolability or perfect sinlessness."

Oremus (Let us pray): Jesus, Mary, I love you, save souls!

For what its worth, coming from a Santa Barbaran traditionalist (who hopes against hope that he is not alone in this town), I can vouch that is definitely the Casa de Maria retreat center. My alma mater, a *Catholic* school, took us there for our Senior Retreat a couple years ago.

We had *Mass* in the very room in which those blasphemous acts were performed. Granted, we were theologically sold short as it was, but this absolutely takes the cake. What other blasphemies have occurred there in the past, one might wonder? I'd pose the question of whether or not the grounds had been cleansed with Holy Water and prayers of expiation first, but I think the answer can be reasonably deduced short of an inquiry.

Also, it should surprise no one that Fr. Virgil and Bishop Curry are honorary co-chairs of such a place. At the very least it doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Both are very much in need of our prayers, as are the misguided women in the "ecumenical Christian Community" that blasphemes Our Lady. God have mercy on them and us all.

O Mary, +conceived without sin+, pray for us who have recourse to thee!

Dear Anonymous 2:35 a.m.,

Thanks very much for verifying the reports about the location of the blasphemous "ordination."

And thanks very much, too, for being, as you say, "a Santa Barbara traditionalist."

To find more traditionalists in your town, you can find out where Adoration is taking place, and Exposition, and Rosary and Fatima events, and meet the people who pray there.

You can also ask around and find your local pro-life activists. Some are probably "traddies."

This way, you'll make good, new Catholic friends.

You are so right about our need to pray for our hierarchy and clergy and to invoke the Blessed Mother!

Thanks for writing, and God bless.
