Bishop Juan Arzube, Requiescat in Pace

Let us pray for the repose of the soul of Bishop Juan Arzube. As The Tidings reports (click on this post's title), he entered eternal life on Christmas Day, at age 89. His funeral Mass was December 31. He was a priest for 53 years.

Cardinal McIntyre ordained himto the priesthood in 1954. Fr. Arzube became an auxiliary bishop in 1971 and headed the San Gabriel Pastoral Region from 1986 to his retirement in 1993.

Adjutorium nostrum in nomine Domini. Qui fecit caelum et terram.
Our help is in the Name of the Lord. Who made Heaven and Earth.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

Estimado Anonymous 4:42 p.m.,

Thank you for writing, and may God keep you among his ones, too. Yes, an obituary for Bishop Arzube should mention his homeland.

He was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, on June 1, 1918.

www.diario-extra.com had a fitting story, "El adios del Obispo Juan Arzube," with a subhead, "Sorrow in the U.S. Ecuadorian community."

In Bishop Arzube's family was Ecuador's second saint, San Miguel Febres Cordero (1854-1910), also called Santo Hermano Miguel.

The story continues:

God bless!
