Archdiocese of L.A. video welcomes His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to USA

Go to the Archdiocese of Los Angeles website (click on this post's title) to see the video the Archdiocese has prepared to welcome Pope Benedict XVI to the USA.

The video is pretty much only about a blessing of animals. I love our little animal friends, and blessing them is wonderful -- but...

Judging by all the babies aborted here every day without significant opposition from the Archdiocese, and judging by all the souls who apostasize to the sects here, too, also without significant opposition from the Archdiocese...

...maybe the video does depict all that the Archdiocese does.

Okay, I'm exaggerating for effect here, and I know the Archdiocese does many wonderful things for the Faith.

But wouldn't it be nice if the Archdiocese could have sent the Holy Father a video about all the babies the Archdiocese had saved in rescues led by our bishops and priests, and about the all the members of the sects our bishops and priests and laity had brought back to the Faith?

Maybe our bishops and priests could start leading us in such efforts. Is that too much to ask?

Do you have any suggestions or comments for what an ideal L.A. video to the Vicar of Christ should be like?

The only thing that the archdicese could send the Holy Father would be the TLM's at St. Thérèse and or Liturgies done at Ss. Victor and Therese. It would be nice to send the HF a video with pro-life rallies, and things upholding Church doctrine.

The Curt Jester has the 10 reasons why the blessing of the animals was sent.

A video of the beauty of the Cathedral of our Lady of the Angel. (Video would be way too short)
Highlights from the L.A. Religious Education Congress. Well maybe that is something else they would not want the Holy Father to witness.
Beautiful reverent liturgies using a large glass jug for the Precious Blood. Oops another thing that should be on the down-low.
A tour of bursting seminaries from a diocese with more than four million Catholics. Oh wait you would have to set up a Potemkin seminary first.
A video of the numerous times the Cardinal has honored and hosted events for pro-abortion Catholics. Darn that won't work either.
A tour of the Archdiocese property, minus of course all the buildings sold because of the priestly abuse. Well maybe not.
A video of the ordination of openly gay Deacon Eric Stollz who has written publicly against the Church's teaching on homosexuality. Well maybe another ordination would be more appropriate.
Or how about a video showing how fast the Archdiocese responded to the removal of the indult for EMHC's purifying sacred vessels. Oh wait the Cardinal wrote a memo instead that no changes would be made at the present time.
Well maybe a video exposition of "Gather Faithfully Together: A Guide for Sunday Mass" written by the Cardinal. Surely the Pope would want to put this as an appendix to his book "Spirit of the Liturgy." Well then again maybe as an example of how not to explain Eucharistic theology and following the norms of the Church.
Or maybe a video showing how cooperative the Archdiocese was in providing documents to the court in the matter of handling sexual abuse. I guess just as long as you define "cooperative" as stonewalling and doing every legal maneuver possible to keep this from happening.

The Gospel says " For every tree is known by it's own fruit" and the fruit that this tree has produced is one that cannot be shown to our Holy Father. This Cardinal never speaks out against all the abortions, porn, gangs, murders by gangs, homosexual agendas that are being promoted in the public schools and all the liberal clergy tearing down the Catholic Faith. I hope that after watching this truly sad video our Holy Father decides to replace Mahoney with a true warrior for Jesus and his one true church.

Dear Joe of St. Therese,

Thanks for the great suggestions and for sending along the Curt Jester's all-too-accurate list of reasons the Archdiocese's video was about the blessing of animals!

Did you read "Chico and Joseph" from Ignatius Press? Just out. Forward by the pope's personal secretary. 'Nuff said.

One hopeful thought: the video was published on April 1st. Maybe there will be an April Fool's retraction?

Dear Clayton,

Very perceptive of you to notice the date! Sure wish the video was meant to be an April Fool joke.

Too bad the joke's on us, though. Sure would have been nice to send the Holy Father a video of bishop- and priest-led pro-lifers saving babies, of Catholics returning to the Church from the sects, and of a seminary bursting with vocations.
