How Catholic is April 22 Catholic "Lobby Day?"

This week's issue of the L.A. Archdiocesan newspaper The Tidings has a story http://www.the-tidings.com/2008/040408/lobbyday_text.htm on the California Catholic Conference's 10th annual Lobby Day set for this April 22.

The Conference's website says (click on this post's title) that after Mass and a rally on the steps of the state capitol building, "hundreds of Catholics will meet their legislators to lobby [sic] bills and discuss state budget priorities."

The CCC says it will lobby about four priorities. You guessed it -- not one of them is about cutting abortion funding and otherwise fighting abortions.

What message does it give the politicians -- the pro-lifers as well as the pro-aborts -- when Catholics do not make fighting abortions a priority?

Oh, well, I forgot -- abortions have been "legal" in California for only 40 years. It must be too early for our California bishops to get up to speed on doing something about the millions of babies aborted in the Golden State.

Maybe in another 40 years our bishops will do something. Or maybe not.

It is sad to see this day come. Although, I might actually go and bring up the right to life.

The unfortunae thing with the "Spirit of Vatican II" is that social justice and the right to Life became separated somehow.

There is no social justice without the right to Life.

We need to pray a ton of Divine Mercy's for their conversion, and the Right to Life being taken to the forefront.

One would think after the Holy Father steps on to US soil that their being Catholic is re-energized.

Mater Miserecordiae, ora pro nobis.

Dear Joe of St. Therese,

That's so true, that the "Spirit of Vatican II" types separate social justice from the right to life. The babies pay the price.

And you are so right that we must pray for their conversion and for the right to life to come to the forefront. Well said!

The group from the Fresno diocese will be lead bt Fr. Rude, SJ. In a recent television program on the Fresno diocese television station, Rude, who run the "social justice" programs under smiling bishop john Steinbock was pushing his social action agenda...Abortion not included. These "Catholic" days are othign but democratic party field trips.

Dear Anonymous 6:19 a.m.,

No doubt that's a very good characterization -- that the lobby day is a Democrat Party field trip.

Let's pray the Father you mention will become actively anti-abortion.

I couldn't agree more with all of the above comments. We must pray for our Catholic leaders. Not one mention of our Pope Benedict XVI today. Very sad. God bless us all,
Patricia
