The Tidings Online covers the Pelosi saga

The Tidings Online (click on this post's title) right now has the California Bishops' pro-Prop 8 statement; an article about Archbishop Niederauer and Nancy Pelosi; Archbishop Niederauer's complete statement; and a nice Catholic News Service article about Sarah Palin.

It's interesting to speculate about possible outcomes of a meeting between the Archbishop and Nancy Pelosi. Will we find out anything before Election Day?

It's great, isn't it, that Nancy Pelosi and Joe Biden keep bringing up their opposition to the right to life and thus forcing our U.S. bishops to admonish them and educate the public?

This election is about abortion. A vote for Obama-Biden is a vote for abortion, no matter how much the lefty Catholics pretend they can vote for pro-aborts without voting pro-abortion.

How can anybody vote for pro-abortion candidates without voting for abortion?

By the way, don't look now, but when Archbishop Niederauer meets with Nancy Pelosi, he should admonish her and teach her Catholic morality not just about facilitating abortions but also about facilitating the homosexual takeover agenda.

Q,

You don't know how right you are. My lefty mother-in-law is staying with us and my wife asked her what she thought of Sarah Palin. The 1st thing she said was, "well, I'm pro-abortion and I could never vote for someone who doesn't believe in that." Wow, I must not get out much, because I have never heard anyone call themselves "pro-abortion"- it's always "pro-choice," and I never thought I'd hear those words uttered in my house.

Of course, we already know that she doesn't approve of our having three kids - just three mind you. She actually counseled my wife to kill our last child when we found out she was pregnant.

The point being that the most important issue for her is the right for a mother to kill her child...and she's 72 years old! I absolutely don't get it.

Yes, I do pray for her.

Dear Paul,

Thank you for writing, but I'm so sorry to hear about the situation.

I'm hereby asking all our visitors:

If you are reading Paul's comment, please pray for his pro-abortion mom-in-law right now and in the future, and please pray for the whole family, including the three dear little grandkids.

God bless!

Dear Paul,

If your mom-in-law was born in 1936, she was in her late 20s and early 30s when the pervasive and incessant campaign of propaganda to legalize aborting babies got going and gained steam.

Every element of popular culture also was propagandizing for sexual sins and contraception, and that seeped into the heads even of the people who remained chaste.

The Marxist-inspired feminist movement got underway and became enormously influential.

Your mom-in-law would have been 32 for the first Earth Day.

She would have been 34 when Paul Ehrlich's book The Population Bomb convinced countless Americans that they had to stop having babies. Never mind that none of his dire predictions of overpopulation and mass starvation ever came true!

These were probably some things that influenced her. She has a lot of company in her generation.

Q,

Oh, I agree that she was greatly influenced by the perfect storm that hit the culture in the 1960's. A storm made much worse, I might add, due to the destruction of the Catholic bulwark in the aftermath of VII.

That being said, I can't tell you how happy I am to see so many bishops speak out. The abortion topic has even made the agenda for the November meeting (which is, of course, after the election) and I pray that it is widely discussed before then.

On the abortion front, I thought this little blurb from Fr. Corapi's newsletter from yesterday was powerful:
...Do you suppose that a nation and the people that have democratically elected the leaders of that nation can be pleasing to God if they were guilty of the outrageous crime of genocide? If a nation legally and systematically had murdered 48,000,000 unwanted women over 60 years of age, would that nation be favored, blessed, and protected by God? Alright, change it to men under 30 years of age. Human beings are human beings.

We have under the specious pretext of law—the law of the highest Court in the land—murdered 48,000,000 innocent human beings through abortion in this country since that dark day Satan donned judicial robes and issued his decision in Roe v. Wade. The nation, and most of the world, is “bewitched” into thinking that this is somehow acceptable because a court of morally blind, if not insane, men said so. Hitler said many things, as did Stalin, and every other individual or institution living apart from God and His unalterable law. They are all gone. The immutable will of God and His truth still stand and always will......

Let's all keep storming heaven with our prayers to end the scourge of abortion.

Dear Paul,

Thanks for the reminder about how many bishops have spoken out about Catholic teaching on aborting babies and the sanctity of human life.

And thanks for the quote from Father Corapi. As we know, he doesn't use words lightly -- so when he says we as a nation are "bewitched" about Roe vs Wade and aborting babies, he means what he says and we should take heed.
