Stand up for the babies: Go to the West Coast Walk for Life, Sat., Jan. 24, in San Francisco

Hope you are planning to go to the 5th annual West Coast Walk for Life along San Francisco's waterfront on Saturday, January 24.

By then we'll be living in the Obamanation, so it's important for everyone to stand up publicly for the babies and be counted.

The pro-aborts and the anti-pro-lifers need to know that we're not going away.

Click on this post's title to find out all about the Walk and about that morning's Mass, as well as the events on the day before (including all-night Adoration) and the day after.

The event the day after is a candlelight prayer vigil at an abortion chamber. That is great, because no pro-life conference or other large event should ever take place that does not include the attendees giving public witness outside the local abortion chamber(s).

What about the L.A. Archdiocese's annual Mass for Life at the cathedral on the 24th? Is there some reason why people should not go? Or why you won't talk about it? Hate the Archdiocese, as you obviously do, but don't hurt babies while doing it.

Dear Betty,

If you're going to slam people for not talking about the Mass for Life at the cathedral on the 24th, start with the Archdiocese itself.

As of tonight, I find no mention of it on the opening page of the archdiocesan web site. Maybe it is buried somewhere inside, but I see no mention of it in the coming events section or anywhere else.

And nobody will believe your phony charge of "hate the archdiocese." Seeking much-needed reform is a sign of true love for our beloved Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Dear Betty,

You should not have assumed that I was not going to publicize this year's Respect Life Mass.

I have not seen any details about this year's Mass, from any source.

After all, if you take the trouble to check, you will see that last January 16, I did publicize the 2008 Mass, which was to be celebrated on Jan. 19, 2008.

True, I did make some suggestions in that post about how to improve the overall event. But I did publicize the Mass.

So instead of judging me, why don't you supply the details of this year's Mass, if you know them?

go the archdiocese's site and click on "latest news." The Tidings also has written about it. Your excuses are transparent and flimsy. Again, your hatred for the archdiocese and cardinal mahony should not cause you to censor meaningful and true prolife events.

Dear Betty 7:53 p.m.,

Your false charges continue to ring false indeed.

Please halt your ire and take a time-out from your false and angry accusations against me.

Now, please take the trouble to objectively read my comments of 9:21 p.m. and 10:24 p.m. Tuesday.

The truth is that as of those times that evening, the Archdiocese's web site had no mention of the pro-life Mass.

Nor have I seen mention of the pro-life Mass in the Tidings. No doubt they will mention it in their next issue -- but as far as I could tell, they had not done so as of the past two days in which you spewed accusations against me.

Now, please also take notice of my post on Wednesday, in which I happily promote the very Mass you accuse me of not promoting.

Why are you in such a rush to judge me and wrongly accuse me?

You accused me before I, or anyone, had any chance to publicize the pro-life Mass.

Is your actual gripe that you dislike the West Coast Walk for Life? Do you begrudge those pro-life Angelenos who can go to the Walk their chance to do so?

Do you dislike pro-life activism? Do you think pro-lifers should stay in church and never stand up for the babies in public?

Do you dislike anyone who seeks reform -- change -- in our beloved Archdiocese and its policies, including more effective outreach to expecting moms and their babies?

If you are really for the babies, why do you make false and angry charges against a fellow defender of the babies, namely, me?

Lastly, "hating the Cardinal" is a patently false charge. I have said many times that we should pray for him, and I have suggested, sometimes forcefully, ways in which I think he could improve how he does some things. That is not "hating" at all -- it is trying to help.

That L.A.'s abortion mills keep on, year after year, aborting 150 babies a day suggests that the Cardinal and the Archdiocese do need to adjust their approach to pro-life in order to actually save some, most or all of those babies. Is it so bad to say that, as I have in the past?

Of course, we need Mass for the Babies, and I happily publicized that Mass last year and now this, contrary to your angry charges.
